| Hello, I'm writing this guide to help newbies out since I saw some stuff happen today while I was on the server that would of been unrealistic *Coughs* Alex *Coughs* (JK ) So if you choose to keep this or not Snapple Idc. xD Since this is long imma put it in spoilers 1) Role Play Terms- Spoiler:
What is IC and OOC?
IC stands for In-Character and this means all your character actions. Examples: /s LSPD Stop! Get on the ground! /me takes digs into his pocket taking out his cell. /r Hello, need a pickup at los santos police department. IC chats - /shout /me /do /whisper. Do not use smileys or shortcuts(lol, rofl, bb,thx) in any IC chat.
OOC stands for Out Of Character and refers to yourself. Examples: /n ehh im tired lol /pm 4 Yo, saw my forum post? /n wtf, reported! OOC chats - /ol /b /pm . Wherever you see doublebrackets (( text )) it means its OOC.
What is metagaming?
Metagaming is using OOC information IC. Example: Using /f for backup while you getting robbed. Using information you know in PM or /f IC. Good explanation to it would be using someones name just because its over his head, and you havent met him IC. Or lets say someone pmed you that Jessica_Tear killed you, you see Jessica_Tear somewhere and you kill him. It wouldn't be metagame if he woulda said it on radio or called you(*describes Jessica_Tear* in radio).
So, if you gain any information in any OOC chat (/o /pm /b /f) and use it In Character, you are metagaming. For example you want to sell gun or car and you /pm someone offering it. This is not allowed, because this is metagaming. If you want to sell your car, please use /ad ( advertisement) or offer it to people on streets.
What is revenge-kill?
Revenge killing is returning to someone attempting to kill him after you died. Example:Say if I kill Jared RPLY and after he gets out of hospital he finds me and kills me is Revenge kill. What is powergame?
Forcing others to RP and doing unrealistic things like bunnyhop. Just dont do things that are impossible IRL. Example: /me puts on his wings and flies away. /me kills John. /me steals Johns wallets. 2) [u]Creating Emotes and expanding your vocabulary - Spoiler:
Talking is easy enough, but presenting emotes clearly and effectively is a great way of showing your RP ability. Emotes are not about big words or complicated sentence structure, their about imagination and your characters actions. Make sure you have a good grasp of the English language before placing these words in a sentence for it may not make sense.
Visual examination
Words: look, glance, attention, gaze, eye, peek, notice, inspect, stare, view, squint, watch and observing.
Examples:
/me looks at Jared. /me glances at Jared. /me peeks at Jared. /me gives his undivided attention to Jared. /me drags his gaze from Jared to Alex. /me slowly runs his glare over Jared, eyeing him head to toe. /me observes Jared closely, watching his every movement. /me darts his glance at Jared.
Movement
Words: walks, strides, struts, glides, navigates, advances, shuffles, stumbles, clambers, drifts, ingresses and sways.
Examples:
/me walks over to Jared. /me kicks his legs into motion, striding across the road. /me struts down the sidewalk. /me advances his hand toward the bottle of Miller. /me shuffles his weight across the chair to Jared. /me drifts past Jared. /me navigates his glance up and down the street. /me ‘s attention glides across the group.
Happy
Words: buoyant, ecstatic, joyous, light hearted, lively, content, perky, thrilled and pleased. /me nods at Jared, content with the decision.
/me is clearly pleased with Jared. /me bounds into the room in a buoyant manner. /me light heartedly chuckles at Jared. /me sends Jared a perky smile. /me sticks his thumb up at Jared, thrilled at the decision. /me is ecstatic!
Setting the scene
This is a great way of creating RP and conversation. What I mean by setting the scene is dropping emotes in /act that describe the environment or something within that other players can respond to. Basically, their goal is to create RP conversation.
For example:
/do Heavy rap music can be heard coming from the apartment above. /do The sounds of a car accident can be heard on the intersection above the group. /do The streetlights gloom covers Jared’s back, leaving his face shaded. /do Several homeless men are perched in a porch way beside the Tiki Theatre. /do A cool breeze cuts through the group.
The trick is to keep them subtle and realistic, don’t powergame or go over the top with;
/do A huge explosion hurls through the street, the blast wave throws cars into the air.
3. Downtime.
When something isn't happening and you're hanging around waiting for an order, the thing I hate to see is silence. A little bit of effort and research can leave your character with something to say at any time.
Stories - Every character should have a story or two, some funny or not, something that happened to your character in the past.
Jokes - Try and look up a few jokes, not all of them have to be racial, try and twist a few into an Italian-American context.
Conversation topics
The weather
Man 1 - "Shit, last night I was caught up in a freak rain storm, just outta town. Almost hit a bear, at least I thought it was a bear."
Man 2 - "Yeah, it started just as I had my leg through the front door. It couldn't have been a bear, could it?"
What you did on the weekend, what you plan to do.
Man 1 - "I'm goin' fishin' this weekend."
Man 2 - "I went out with my cousin last friday, deep sea, love it."
Television, programs you saw.
Man 1 - "Catch that documentary on Tibetan monks?"
Drink - what alchohol you like, research some whacky cocktails.
Women - Girls who have been banged, experiences with them, girls you intend to bang.
Movies – Funny scenes, parts you liked.
And the list goes on, but the goal is still the same, this will help you define your character and form friendships or disagreements between other faction members.
Personal favourite words and emotes you may find useful
TEXT
Unprofessional - Incompetent, Incapable, Amateur.
"He's an incompetent mutt." "You see what he did infront of the club? Fuckin' amateur." "Yeah, he's incapable of carryin' out the simplest of tasks."
EMOTES
Acknowledgement, Acknowledging - physical act of recognizing someone. (Note down recognize, alot of can't spell it.) /me sends a nod of acknowledgement toward Jared. /me turns his attention to Jared, acknowledging him with a nod.
Gesture, signal,- a motion as communication.
/me gestures toward the door. /me raises his hand into the air, signalling Jared.
Pinpoints, homes in on - Another way of directing your look.
/me pinpoints Paul with a glance. /me homes in on Paul with his glare. 3) Golden rules of Roleplay (That I experience)- Spoiler:
1. If people haven't introduced themselves to your character, you don't know their name. Unless you met one of their friends or workers that told you their name. Shall you want to prove this fact, you must go to a random city and name every single person you see on the streets for me and film it.
2. You can't see people's jobs just by standing really close to them and seeing the job tag plugin. Unless they are a police officer, in which case they would have a uniform and badge, you won't know if somebody is a hitman/mafioso/whatever unless they or somebody who is in the know tells you. That being said, a random person like a doctor probably wouldn't know about a criminal organization, don't god the roleplay by accepting information from an idiot who wouldn't know, they have to have a reason.
3. Don't be a vigilante unless you have a specific roleplaying reason for doing so. If somebody is robbing, the cops will handle it, unless you are assigned to guard the building or are in cahoots with the robber don't get involved. When cops are chasing down a criminal, don't run with the cops, you put yourself at risk and there is no guarantee you won't be shot and killed by the criminal.
4. There is a Shift-key, you can hold it to walk. Nobody has unlimited stamina, jog around the town as you please but it would be best if you walk when you are in a building. If too many people are running around it creates chaos and confusion in a small area.
5. Don't powergame. This means that if you are in a situation with a different character, allow them the chance to actually take part in the roleplay. Don't say "/me knocks you out with a lead pipe", you don't know their character would be instantly knocked out and for all you know they could have cat-like reflexes, enough to duck out of the way. Say "/me takes a swing at your head with a lead pipe" this allows them to either dodge it or get hit. They will know if their character is good enough to dodge or not, don't worry about that.
6. You can choose to be a normal citizen and still have fun, not every single one of your characters has to be an ex-military commander who can disable a man in two seconds. You can still have intense social situations if your character befriends a criminal without even knowing it, good roleplays will probably result. If you are in a diner, you can talk to people, don't be shy, have your character make powerful allies to combat your enemies. You can still have hidden operations going on in the background, just don't make all your characters "Titanium Tits" with the ability to scale walls, dodge bullets and fire weapons with 100% accuracy.
7. Roleplay fear, this server seems to do a shitty job with this. If a man is firing a gun, run away from him, do not run at him unless you are a cop. Even a cop would still be afraid of a gang of terrorists with AK47's trashing a store. In a stick-up, it is best to follow the criminal's demands or expect to be murdered. Everyone gets scared, if you see a grizzly murder your character's mental health would be effected greatly and your first reaction would not be to confront the criminal. People with guns are scary, remember this. You will panic, you will sweat perhaps you will even break down crying in a terrorist attack such as an armed robbery or murder.
8. You must know how to spell, people who talk like "hi dudes, wuzzup" will get little respect in the roleplaying community, do whatever you like over OOC chatter but keep it clean and sensible in IC chatter and actions.
